Lessons normally start with myself evaluating you or you and your horse as the case may be. The lesson plans are tailored to meet the needs of each individual ~ both horse and rider.
I am pleased to work with you on your own horse, or work with you on one of our lesson horses. We have lesson horses that have personality types that will match the most timid rider to the most advanced rider. Great care and time are taken to be certain that you and your lesson horse are well matched. As you advance, you move on to a more challenging horse.
Lessons are $30.00 per session.

FOR LEASE

"Sugar"
Sugar is an 18-year-old Appaloosa mare. She is and “old hand” at helping children gain confidence. She was originally a trial horse at one of those “rent-a-horse” places. Sugar then went on to be a contesting horse for a young girl. Then she learned western pleasure and huntseat. She was used in 4-H for approximately 5 years in all three disciplines. Sugar has also made several appearances in parades and pony rides. From there she became a lesson horse for MoonWind Stables. Sugar loves to stand for brushing and loving from adult and children alike. She is a very gentle soul. |

Pony
"Pony" is a 20 year old part Halflinger Pony named "Sophie."
However, we have all called her "Pony" so much that the name just STUCK:) She is a wonderful teacher for the children. She goes both English and Western, and she even JUMPS! She is a favorite for pony parties, parades and was shown hunt seat and western pleasure until her previous owner out grew her. |

"Beauty"
Beauty is our Newest addition.
20 Something Grade mare
She has the slowest, smoothest lope around! She also goes both English and Western; she is great on the trails, and wonderful on the ground.
We love our Beauty. She comes with a story too...her previous owner saved her...She went to a garage sale, and there was the pitiful black, rail thin, tired looked mare tied to a tree with a chain. Beauty's previous owner asked the garage sale people if they would sell her the horse. They told her to "just take her" so, 10 minutes later Beauty was on her way to her new home! So, we feel doubly glad to have beauty with us as our very own!
Thank you Linda for sharing Beauty with us! |

FOR LEASE / FOR SALE |
"His Highness Prince Royal"
Royal is a big, giant baby. He is spoiled rotten and definitely a barn favorite.
Royal is an English horse; he does hunter on the rail and is learning hunter over fences. He also does training level dressage. He is happiest when he is being pampered. He loves to be ridden!
Royal also enjoys the occasional western pleasure in a hackamore.
Every once in a blue moon, we offer one of our lesson horses for sale.
Royal happens to be one of them. If you are interested in a wonderful horse for your advanced hunt seat rider, here he is. Tried and tested for soundness, saneness, and sensibility. He has all three!

Christmas Princess
FOR LEASE |
"Her Highness Princess Ashley"
20-year-old TB mare
Here is Royals matched bookend. They ride very much alike. They not only look alike, but they move alike.
Believe it or not, her previous owner also rescued her! I see a pattern forming here...
Princess Ashley is another barn favorite. She goes hunter under saddle and hunter over fences, as well as upper level dressage.
Princess Ashley is a perfectionist. She is a GREAT teacher. She will not tolerate a slob. If you know how to ride decently and you have soft, gentle hands, this horse will jump the moon or walk through fire for you. She is so incredibly willing to please ~ just be gentle and respectful when you ask! Now, if you are NOT gentle, well, she isn't going to be either.
Princess is tested, tried and true for soundness, saneness, and sensibility, she has it all and then some.

FOR LEASE |
"Dolly"
8 Yr. Old Haflinger Mare
We have wanted a haflinger for quite some time.
Dolly is a lovely creature; she is used for our more advanced riders. She is a lot of fun to ride and boy does she learn FAST.
Before coming to us, Dolly was used extensively as a “husband horse” on trail rides.
Dolly can be ridden both hunt seat and western pleasure. She prefers hunt seat. She is so ROUND that we use the mule saddle to ride her western!:)

General Horse Care
We keep in mind at all times safety, so we learn where to put our feet and to watch where the horses feet are, and what to do if a horse spooks or moves suddenly and how to "read" our horses body language.
|
All Novice lessons begin with the student being led around on the horse. Much to the protest of many students:) This serves a great purpose; it teaches the student balance and how to "read" the horse’s body language. This gains the students confidence, and gets a nice solid "seat" going before we move on.

I will not move to the next phase of lessons until the student is ready
You will be pushed out of your comfort zone when you are ready to move on
|
Safe for YOU
Safe for your HORSE
You are BOTH calmer afterwards
These three criteria will be met, each and every time you take a lesson at MoonWind Stables.

*************Some final notes on Lessons***********
We try very diligently to keep our lessons fun for all ages, both by playing games and changing activities. Obviously, more is expected of a 12 year old as opposed to a 6 or 7 yr. old. However, safety rules are enforced no matter WHAT age the student is, be it a young novice child or an experienced adult student that is taking lessons just to "bone up" for the up coming show season. The purpose for this strict policy is for the safety or our riders and our horses, our Motto is "Safe for you, Safe for the horse, and BOTH are calmer afterwards." After all, your idea of safety and my idea of safety may be two different things, so we kind of have to play the "hard nosed barn-owner" and say things like "my barn, my rules" this means no running up behind the horse and jumping on the rump!! Even if it WAS safe the last 15 times you did it over at "so and so's" barn!!
Be assured that we will take the time it takes in order to accomplish what we set out to do for that day. I will NEVER ask you to do something you are not capable of doing. This does not mean that you will not be encouraged to leave your own comfort zone in tiny increments as time goes on. As a student, you are paying me to encourage, help, and teach you to move beyond your current knowledge and comfort. For me to do less, I would be remiss in my duties as teacher.
Helmets are required. Helmets must be ASTM/SEI certified.
