Breeding Highlander cats and Napoleon cats.

Our goal :

To continue to promote and cultivate the standards set forth by the Highlander breed group and the Napoleon Breed group in order to rise up the TICA ladder to Championship status in both breeds.

We have only 2 breeding pairs at this time, we will not over breed our Queens and do not have litters year round.  We are a small cattery and intend to stay that way as we feel it helps to ensure the health of our cats and kittens.

We are hobby breeders and by no means do we intend to make a living with our cats.    We do it sincerely for the joy of sharing these precious babies with other cat lovers.  We put a lot of love, time, expense and heart into each and every one of our cats and kittens, and we take the utmost care to ensure that the perspective adopter and the kitten or cat they have chosen are a well-suited match.  It is for this reason that we reserve the right to refuse to adopt a kitten to you for any reason.

We are an in-home, cageless, cattery.  Our cats are part of our family and underfoot. Raised in a loving home environment with children and dogs in order to provide their new families with well rounded, properly socialized kitten(s).

Forever Kittens Cattery is not able to  allow outside visitors to enter our cattery at this time; Not only for the purposes of keeping our insurance agent happy, but also to protect the health and well-being of our cats and kittens at all times.   In our quest to keep our kittens healthy and our mama cats non stressed, it is important that we keep our daily routine not only sanitary but non-threatening as well.  We are sincerely sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

We love to hear updates and see photos of our kittens as they grow up and we are here for you to ask questions or just share kitty stories with for the life of your cat.  Our relationship does not end with the adoption of one of our cats.  We want to ensure your success with our Forever Kittens baby.

Our Queens and Sires were hand picked from reputable, long time breeders, well-known in their field of specialty for their genetically superior, healthy, friendly kittens and customer service.

Our Experience:

We have the collective experience of 12 years of previous animal breeding which adhered to the same strict ethical and moral codes as do the reputable breeders of these cats.

Furthermore, I have life experience as a veterinary assistant.  We carry this knowledge with us into the   We continue to further our education in regards to cat health and emotional well being via the many avenues that are available to us.  It is with this vision that we stride forth with assurance that kittens produced at Forever Kittens Cattery are of high quality and genetically sound. We strive to produce kittens to meet the aesthetic and genetic standards set forth by the the Highlander and Napoleon Breed groups.

About Highlanders

Highlander/Highland Lynx cats are well renowned for their ability to adapt easily to any situation. They get along very well with large breed cats such as Savannahs, and Bengals. The Highlanders unique look of the wild mixes quite well in the large breed cat lovers family and makes for a fabulous conversation piece. Not to mention the hours of entertainment they provide with their boundless energy and never ending antics. The cuddles and purrs they give out to all whom they encounter endear them to even the most devoted "non cat people."

Some observations I have made:  Highlanders love to play in water, "Moonie" the cat pictured here likes to dip her paws in her water bowl like a raccoon and drink that way! Her daughter Elsa is the same way, they also like to hop into the bathtub or shower when they hear the water turned on.  They are very inquisitive, playful and bold.  Their wild markings are a bonus to their sparkling personalities!  Our hearts are forever captured by this truly unique and lovable breed.

Highlanders have naturedly occurring curled ears, and short tails, they are God made, not man made, the curled ears were further cultivated by breeding the cats to continue the trait.  Much like the Marwari horse seen below:

Marwair horse curled eared horse

Not all highlanders are born with curled ears OR short tails, if they are born with either long tails or straight ears, they are considered "non-standard" and will be priced much more cheaply than a "standard" Highlander.  Many breeders practice docking the tails of their cats (done by a veterinarian at a very young age) Though I do not believe this hurts the kittens unduly, I still have not yet convinced myself to actually take them to the vet to have it done, therefore if our cats are born with long tails...they stay long and are sold as such.  Long tailed Highlanders can still be used in breeding programs to produce more short tailed highlanders.  In fact, it is a recommended practice to breed a long tailed Highlander to a short tailed highlander so as to protect the integrity of the spine and musculature of the kittens produced from the breeding.  At forever kittens our Sire is dock tailed and our Queen is a naturally occurring short tailed Highlander.

polydactyl footed catSome Highlander cats have Polydactyl feet, also known as "Poly feet", or "Mitten footed"...this means that all four feet, or even only two feet will have extra toes upon them.  It's an amazing big pawed look and here at Forever Kittens we look forward to adding a poly footed queen to our cattery in the future in order to offer some of those wonderful babies to our Highlander/poly fans:)

  About Munchkins

Munchkins are a naturally occurring  cat, with unusually short legs that is caused by an autosomal dominant gene.
There have been concerns for health of a breed with such short legs, and it was questioned if
this would have a detrimental affect on the spine as has happened with some breeds of dogs
with shorter legs, such as the Dachshund. Dr Solveig Pflueger, a feline geneticist who works
for TICA, conducted a 7 year study on the Munchkin, prior to their acceptance by TICA – and
not only did she find that they were a viable stand-alone breed, she fell in love with them and
has been breeding them herself, ever since!  The results of her findings were that ‘the only
thing that the Munchkin trait appears to affect is the long-bone in the legs’.  They can run and
jump and get into just as much mischief as any other breed.

Please visit TDCA for more information on Munchkins and Munchkin hybrids

Observations I have made:  Munchkins love to sit up on their hind legs much like Meerkats!

Napoleon Cat sitting upMunchkins and most Munchkin hybrids tend to be friendly right from the beginning.  They are playful and cute for life.  They tend to be very tolerant of other cats, dogs and children.  I sincerely have never met any other cat breeds that are so very social with humans and human activities as well as other animals.  They are unique in that they do not get underfoot (and trip you while carrying the birthday cake) but they tend to always be nearby ~ within a few feet quietly observing.  A quick purring meow when you do something of particular interest.   They think nothing of being introduced to a new kitty household member, a sniff, a meow, a tail flick and then onto more important things, such as, what are the humans doing?  A giant slobbering dog, no problem!  They can attack his wagging tail, and when he sleeps, they can curl up with him.   Children ~ oh boy!  Treats AND a string to play with for hours!  The vets office.  Great!  They can be patted by strangers, and show off their incredible coats, loving personalities, and tolerant nature.  Shot?  What shot?  Do I get treats?  What is over there?  They even travel well!  No throw up in the crate upon arrival, AND they only meow for the first few minutes in complaint that they are not being held, cuddled or babied.  They tend to stay off of the counters and dinner table for the most part.  Not that they can't jump up there, they just don't seem to have that drive to do so as much as common cats do.  The bed is another story, if they can snuggle with a human, they tend to do so.  Especially if it's cold outside and there is a warm human nearby.  If provided with an adequate scratching post, they don't tend to claw on the furniture either! What an added bonus that is.

These observations are not only my own personal opinion, but in talking to many other Munchkin/Munchkin hybrid breeders, they have found the same things to be true with their fur-babies as well.

Due to the smaller stature, it is recommended that you are continually aware of the location of your new cat or kitten as it can be easy to overlook them.

Our Commitment:

At Forever Kittens Cattery we understand that purchasing anything via the internet can be very intimidating.  More markedly so when it is a living, breathing, feeling animal.  These natural concerns of perspective buyers are only part of the reason we not only meet, but exceed the obvious requirements of cat breeding and care.  When purchasing from Forever Kittens Cattery you can rest assured that you are purchasing a genetically sound, friendly little treasure for your family and/or show arena.  It is our promise at Forever Kittens Cattery that will be available to you at our earliest possible convenience to personally discuss any concerns, questions or comments you may have in regards to your potential new pet.  Please note, that even after your baby is safely at home with you, we will be here for you for the life of the cat to listen to your stories of kitty adventures and to help you along the path of good cat stewardship if you so desire at any time.
